FINE FARE HELPED RAISE FUNDS FOR CANCER RESEARCH

On Sunday, September 27, the Athens law firm of Blasingame, Burch, Garrard, & Ashley hosted the sixth annual “Pig Pickin” event at the historic Ashford Manor in Watkinsville. Over 520 people attended the pig roast that features a “home grown” blue grass band.

While food and music is the main fare, the annual event is held to raise funds for the American Cancer Society and to commemorate those lost to the disease, including firm partner W. Seaborn Ashley, Jr.

Partners at the sponsoring law firm take an active role in hosting their “Pig Pickin” event. Firm partner Steve Heath is one of the Blue Grass band members that entertain the large gathering. Firm partner Henry Garrard, III, is chef-in-charge of the pig that is slow-cooked over hickory wood. “I really look forward to this event each year. It is a privilege and a joy to gather friends, neighbors and associates -- to enjoy great food and music together on a late afternoon in September – all in the name of a cause that has touched so many of our lives,” said Garrard.

Dickinson Graduates from YLD Leadership Academy

Dickinson Graduates from YLD Leadership Academy Josh Dickinson, an associate in the firm's lake office, recently graduated from the 2009 Leadership Academy conducted by the Young Lawyers Division of the State Bar. The Academy began in 2006 and is designed to bring together select young lawyers from various practice areas across the state and develop them into leaders for their local bars an communities. Graduation ceremonies took place June 19th during the State Bar's annual meeting in Amelia Island, FL, where graduates were treated to remarks by Thurbert Baker, Georgia's Attorney General.

Shareholder Honored

Chip Brown, a firm shareholder whose practice specializes in real estate, was presented the Affiliate of the Year Award by the Athens Area Association of Realtors at its annual awards banquet February 28, 2009. The Association of Realtors, comprised of over 800 Realtors and real estate professionals, recognized Chip for his continuous commitment to and participation in the Association and its activities. Chip serves on multiple Committees for the Board of Directors including the Membership Committee through which he chaired creation of a Membership Brochure to promote the Association. Chip regularly attends Association meetings while participating in Association social events.
