Richard Schmidt Advises Commission
Richard Schmidt is advising the Northeast Georgia Regional Commission and members of the public on right of way acquisition and governance for the Fire Fly Trail, a long term project to create a walking and biking trail from an abandoned railroad corridor running through Clarke, Oglethorpe and Greene Counties.
Board of Directors Appointment
Thomas Hollingsworth joined the board of directors for St. Mary’s Health Care System, Inc. St. Mary’s is a regional health system in the Catholic Health East system of care.
25th Annual Medical Malpractice Liability Seminar
On November 5-8, 2009, Gary Blasingame hosted the 25th Annual Medical Malpractice Liability Seminar at the Ritz Carlton in Amelia Island, Florida. As is the case each year, the program was well attended. There were presentations on a number of topics by both attorneys and guest psychiatrists and clinicians. Adam Land, an associate at Blasingame, Burch, Garrard & Ashley gave a talk titled "Ex Parte Communications with Plaintiffs' Treating Physicians."
On November 3, 2009, Thomas Hollingsworth attended the graduation ceremony for Bread for Life, Inc. Thomas and Blasingame, Burch, Garrard & Ashley were recognized at the event for their contribution of pro bono legal services in the organization and operation of Bread for Life. Bread for Life provides disadvantaged members of the Athens area community with employment training and job opportunities in the hospitality industry.
Blasingame, Burch, Garrard & Ashley, P.C. raised $1,175 for the annual Clark/Oconee Start! Heart Walk, which was held on October 22, 2009 at Bishop Park in Athens, Georgia. Adam Land served on the Heart Walk steering committee, and led a team of about 12 walkers from the firm.
